Banff Park Lodge was founded in 1978 and purchased by the Horiguchi family in 1988. The family had quite the background in real estate, the only catch was they had never stepped foot on Canadian soil. After discovering the fantastic location and the opportunities the hotel would give the Horiguchi’ s, the family threw caution to the wine and embarked on a unique adventure in the Canadian hotel business.
Over the course of those early years, Mastaka Horiguchi, the son of the owners, visited Banff with his family and fell in love with the Canadian Rockies. In 2001, Masa came to work at the Lodge, first as a bellman, and from then on has had hands on experience working in nearly every department.
This has made for a truly holistic and detail-oriented approach to ownership.
